Main duties of the job

The post holder will lead and manage a multi-disciplinary Bed Management Team. Core functions include oversight of high quality comprehensive clinical review of all referrals for inpatient admission; maintaining and collating data; coordinating bed availability to support demand/capacity management; ensuring national and pan-London guidance is followed in relation to deciding responsibility for care; ensuring least restrictive principles are considered in clinical decision making and professional development/management of individuals in the team. The role requires effective partnership working across multiple teams and services within and outside the division and liaison with outside agencies. Working within the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act is key. The relationship with Senior Site Coordination and provision of a duty function including emergency response is required. Navigation of bed management systems in managing referrals, discharges, data analysis and management of data in relation to bed management is required.

This job description is written as an indication of the nature and scope of duties and responsibilities. The post holder will be expected to carry out other duties assigned by the Service Manager, which are appropriate to the grade of the role.

Responsibilities
  • Take operational day to day management responsibility at team level using performance management systems to ensure the effective delivery of contract activity and quality to required standards to meet contract specifications.
  • Work with the Service Manager to deliver integrated governance requirements and be responsible for delivering governance processes and systems within the team. This may include preparing and writing of policies and procedure documents, clinical policies, and standards.
  • Ensure full compliance of team members with key mechanisms to support clinical delivery including records management, health and social care data entry, practice development, incident reporting, serious untoward incident review and complaints.
  • Undertake and oversee risk assessments and deliver risk management and health and fire safety responsibilities as required by statute, regulation, legal obligation, and trust.

You will also have contact and interactions with professionals from statutory and voluntary organisations and our service users. As the bed manager, you will be a valued member of the team working alongside a team of experienced, dynamic and diverse staff. You will receive an induction to the team and will work alongside colleagues and the team manager to support you into the role.
