Position: Tax Manager

Location: Remote

Classification: Full-Time, Immediate Hire

Overview

We are looking to add a Manager, Tax Reporting & Compliance role within our head office team. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Tax, the successful candidate will be responsible for the effective management of the tax reporting and tax compliance function.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and prepare tax provisions for the AutoCanada group of entities, contributing to the quarterly reporting requirements for the AutoCanada Inc. Consolidated Financial Statements.
  • Review and prepare income tax compliance including Canadian and US corporate income tax returns, partnership information returns, foreign affiliate information returns and non-resident information returns.
  • Ensure and manage the internal process for timely remittance of federal and provincial tax instalments to minimize non-deductible interest costs.
  • Review legal entity financial statements, in collaboration with the financial reporting team, for purposes of tax return preparation.
  • Provide support in tax planning, process improvement, audit and other regulatory authority review scenarios including corporate income tax, GST, provincial sales tax, and luxury tax. This includes managing and overseeing the process as well as reviewing generated reports from accounting records, researching legislation and corresponding with tax authorities.
  • Advise and issue guidance to dealership controllers on tax related matters.
  • Develop and update tax policies and procedures to ensure they align with current regulations and best practices.
  • Provide support to Senior Manager, Tax in relation to transactions and other tax planning activities.
Qualifications
  • Completion of Bachelor of Commerce or Master’s degree in accounting (or relevant focus area) from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Designated as a Chartered Professional Accountant.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience (Previous public company experience would be considered an asset).
  • Understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) relating to tax.
  • Knowledge of Taxprep and OneStream software would be considered an asset.
  • Strong foundation of basic accounting skills.
  • Must have expert Excel skills and be highly skilled in other standard office software (MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to work independently and apply professional judgment.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage a demanding workload.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
