Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a talented and enthusiastic Sustainable Transport Planner to join our team.

Working within the Transport Planning team, you will be responsible for ensuring we are delivering safer, healthier, and greener travel, for all our communities.

Reporting to the Transport Planning Manager, you will be a dynamic and motivated individual who will work as part of the team to help deliver the council’s vision of a net-zero carbon transport network, making greener transport a more natural choice for travel.

You will play a key role in developing and implementing the strategic transport elements of the various plans we work to. This involves development, assessment, prioritisation, high-level design identification and on-going management of specific schemes including shared e-cycles, electric vehicle charging points, car clubs and other cycling and walking infrastructure programmes. Links will be made from these projects to wider areas of the Council’s transport strategy work around cycling, walking, car clubs and public transport.

You will also need to be a team player, working with internal and external stakeholders across multiple projects and working closely with the other members of the team as well as officers within other teams to deliver a range of Transport Infrastructure and Sustainable Transport Projects.

You will be highly motivated, with a flexible approach and an eagerness to develop existing competencies as well as attaining new skills.

Using your skills in the collection, assembly and analysis of data, you will provide essential background material to inform important decisions.

You will need to demonstrate report writing skills, knowledge of transport policy, a capacity for interpreting transport strategies, and excellent verbal communication skills. Analysis skills should ensure at the very least familiarity with things such as the PIVOT and LOOKUP elements of Excel.

Knowledge of GIS will be a considerable benefit. You will also have shown confidence engaging with and managing the expectations of stakeholders including politicians.

You will need to be educated to degree level with a recognised professional qualification.
