A renowned higher education institution in York is seeking Student Ambassadors to represent the University at a variety of events. Responsibilities include conducting campus tours and supporting open days, while gaining valuable experience and transferable skills. The ideal candidates will be current students passionate about their university experience and able to engage diverse audiences. This role offers an hourly pay rate of £12.83, with flexible working hours.
Opportunity open only to current York St John University students who are based at the York Campus. Type of opportunity: Casual (hours offered on an ad-hoc basis in accordance with the University's resource requirements). Hourly rate of pay: £12.83 per hour (exclusive of holiday pay). Holiday pay is accrued at 12.07% in addition to the hourly rate. Location: York. Team: Student Recruitment and Widening Participation (SRWP).
The Student Recruitment and Widening Participation team works locally, regionally and nationally to inspire and support applicants to join our programmes, with a strong focus on engaging those from underrepresented groups in Higher Education. We provide tailored information, advice and guidance to prospective students, their teachers, advisers and parents or carers. Our work includes organising major recruitment events such as Open Days and Decision Days, delivering initiatives like Summer Schools, attending UCAS Fairs, and hosting school and college visits. Student Ambassadors are central to our success, helping bring the student experience to life at events, visits and tours. They also have opportunities to support other University departments, gaining a broad range of skills and experiences along the way.
We are looking for enthusiastic, reliable Student Ambassadors to represent the University at a variety of activities, both on campus and off campus and online. This includes Open Days, virtual events, campus tours, school visits, careers fairs, residential programmes, mentoring and administrative tasks. You will join a vibrant community of over 100 ambassadors, working with staff from SRWP and across the University. From guiding Year 6 pupils on their first campus visit to assisting with large-scale events, your work will directly contribute to inspiring and supporting future students.
Responsibilities may include representing the University at events, conducting campus tours, supporting open days and on-site activities, mentoring and assisting with administrative tasks as needed.
Required skills and experience — Current York St John students based at the York campus; passionate about their university experience and eager to share it with others. You should be friendly, approachable, and confident in engaging with diverse audiences, with strong communication skills and a professional, positive attitude. Reliability, punctuality, and good time management are essential, as is the ability to work well in a team and independently when needed. Above all, you should have a genuine interest in encouraging others on their educational journey and in delivering a high-quality, welcoming experience to all visitors.

Appointments to this role are subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service check.
