Job summary

A leading healthcare provider in Liverpool is seeking a Sterile Services Technician to ensure the highest standards of decontamination services. The role requires NVQ Level 3 in Decontamination and involves operating sterilising equipment, manual handling, and adherence to health & safety protocols. The ideal candidate will have experience in a GMP cleanroom or similar environment and strong communication skills. This position offers permanent shifts of 37.5 hours per week.

Qualifications

  • Good standard of English literacy and numeracy (Grade C or above).

Job description
Responsibilities

As a Sterile Services Technician at Broadgreen Hospital, you will work as part of a dedicated team to provide critical decontamination services to Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Your duties include operating instrument washer disinfectors and sterilisers, manual handling of instruments, scanning and labeling using IT bar‑code systems, assembling and sterilising instruments and equipment, and ensuring compliance with ISO13485, health & safety procedures and departmental SOPs. You will work permanent 1 x weekly alternating shifts (6am‑2pm / 2pm‑10pm) Monday to Friday for a total of 37.5 hours per week.

Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Decontamination and/or Sterile Services, or ability to achieve within 2 years.
  • Experience in a medical device decontamination environment or GMP cleanroom (aseptic, medical device production, pharmacy, or other quality‑driven production environments).
  • Excellent technical and communication skills to inspire, motivate, and lead staff.
  • Experience carrying out internal quality audits and interpreting technical data from equipment.
  • Knowledge of safety requirements, environmental controls, and cleanroom standards.
  • Good standard of English literacy and numeracy (Grade C or above).
Desirable Criteria
  • Understanding of Department of Health requirements for prion minimisation and infection control.
  • Experience in adaptive change and willingness to adopt new technology or methods.
  • Positive can‑do attitude, creativity and inspirational role modelling.
  • Flexibility to meet service and staff needs, manage own time, and drive departmental vehicles.
  • Understanding of national governance framework and Department of Health requirements.
