Job description
Overview

The post is based in His Majesty’s Prison Wormwood Scrubs where the specialty doctor will join an established multidisciplinary team in providing psychiatric care to patients. This post is especially desirable for those wishing to pursue a career in Forensic Psychiatry or General Psychiatry, including Addictions Psychiatry. The successful candidate will be joining an expanded Mental Health In-Reach Team (MHIT) in a Cat B remand prison (with an inmate population of around 1200) in a vibrant part of West London. The Mental Health In-reach is multidisciplinary, with a Team Manager, 2 FTE Consultants (3 Consultants), 8 CPNs, social worker, occupational therapies team, speech and language therapist, psychologists, and social worker. The MHIT works closely with primary care, prison counselling services, ForwardTrust (addictions service), and prison healthcare inpatient unit.

Responsibilities
  • Manage major mental illness and organize transfers to hospitals.
  • Be involved in the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD.
  • Assess and manage a wide range of clinical presentations including psychosis, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, ADHD, neurodevelopmental and substance related disorders.
  • Work across inpatient (health care unit) and outpatient (prison ordinary location) settings.
  • See around 6 new patients each week and 10 follow ups.
  • Have access to a shared office with other doctors and their own computer.
  • Be supported by friendly consultants and MDT, and have opportunities to develop clinical and professional interests.
