Job description
Overview

King Edward VI School, Lichfield, we are seeking to appoint a Sixth Form Learning Mentor. This is an exciting opportunity to join our support team, working closely with the Sixth Form team and our students. We are looking for a member of staff with excellent communication skills and the expertise to build effective relationships with students, in order to reduce barriers to learning and support them in reaching their potential. Experience in a school setting would be an advantage but above all we are looking for the right person to work with our young people.

The role is a learning support role, working mostly with Sixth Form students on a 1-1 or small group basis. You will work with students to create a personalised mentoring programme to support their academic progress. In this role you will provide advice and guidance on methods of effective study and revision, helping students to improve their success in the Sixth Form. This could include helping students to find materials, to manage their workload effectively and suggesting different approaches to tasks. You will be expected to communicate with parents and teaching staff to personalise the approach for individual students and their needs. Good record keeping will be essential to monitor the progress of the students and the effectiveness of the interventions. This role is overseen by the Sixth Form team and is based upstairs in the Library Resource Centre (LRC), which enables close working relationships with the LRC Manager and our Careers Advisor. As part of this role, you will work alongside our SENCO to provide support for the small number of Sixth Form students with EHCPs. You will also work alongside our EPQ Coordinator (Extended Project Qualification) to provide support for a small group of students working towards this qualification as part of their studies.

Responsibilities
  • Work with Sixth Form students on a 1-1 or small group basis to create a personalised mentoring programme supporting academic progress.
  • Provide advice and guidance on effective study and revision methods; help students access materials and manage workload; suggest different approaches to tasks.
  • Communicate with parents and teaching staff to personalise approaches for individual students’ needs.
  • Maintain good records to monitor student progress and the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Collaborate with the Sixth Form team, LRC Manager, Careers Advisor, SENCO, and EPQ Coordinator as required.
Hours and Working Arrangements

The daily working hours will be agreed to meet the needs of the student cohort. The formal school day starts at 8:50am and finishes at 3:15pm. There may be an opportunity for additional working hours to support our Learning Support Department by mutual agreement.
