Overview
Job Title: Site Safety & Health Specialist
Location: Field-Based (Heavy Construction Environment)
Duration: 6 Months (Potential for Extension)
Responsibilities
- Implement and uphold company and statutory HSE policies, processes, and procedures at the project level.
- Actively promote and reinforce a “Safety First” culture across the project.
- Assist project teams in developing and continuously improving project-specific Health & Safety plans.
- Monitor risk registers to ensure all design and construction risks are identified, controlled, and reviewed.
- Provide proactive guidance to site teams on incident prevention and risk mitigation.
- Collect and report data for SHE KPIs, including client-specific metrics, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with engineering and construction teams to embed safety-by-design principles.
- Support the development, execution, and ongoing management of the Safety, Health & Environmental Management System.
- Liaise with external stakeholders including clients, local authorities, subcontractors, and regulatory bodies.
- Conduct regular site audits, inspections, and walkdowns to ensure legal and procedural compliance (e.g., CDM regulations).
- Follow up on corrective actions resulting from audits and inspections through to closure.
- Review and support the development of Safe Systems of Work, including Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
- Monitor and analyze SHE performance data, highlighting trends and recommending interventions where necessary.
- Lead or assist in the investigation of incidents, near misses, and non-conformities.
- Deliver safety briefings, toolbox talks, and contribute to HSE training efforts onsite.
- Identify and share best practices and innovations to enhance site safety culture.
- Act as a role model for HSE performance and professional conduct.
- Maintain professional development and ensure knowledge of current HSE legislation and best practices.
- Provide support in the absence of the site Environmental Advisor.
- Oversee HSE aspects of new worker onboarding, ensuring proper inductions and competency checks.
Candidate Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in a high-compliance construction environment, ideally with experience in live or new substation builds.
- Strong working knowledge of UK HSE legislation, including CDM Regulations.
- Proven ability to influence and support operational teams in delivering safe and compliant outcomes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- NEBOSH certification or equivalent is desirable.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt in a dynamic project environment.
