Senior Environment & Sustainability Advisor

About the Opportunity

Join our dynamic and expanding business as a Senior Environment & Sustainability Advisor, where you will play a critical role in providing expert guidance on environmental and sustainability issues to various project and framework teams across the North West region.

Business Unit Overview

You will become part of a skilled team of SHEQ professionals within our dedicated Environment & Sustainability team, supporting business units and projects across the UK. Our specialists are regionally based, allowing for targeted local support to our diverse projects.

Role Responsibilities

As a Senior Environment & Sustainability Advisor, your main duties will include, but are not limited to:
  • Developing and executing sustainability and climate resilience strategies that meet quality and timeline requirements.
  • Providing technical sustainability support to operational and support staff.
  • Preparing and submitting environmental permits as required.
  • Maintaining a detailed knowledge of relevant sustainability legislation, standards, and best practices.
  • Implementing and monitoring the Project Sustainability Plan and creating a Sustainability Register.
  • Identifying and facilitating sustainability initiatives, as well as monitoring sustainability KPIs.
  • Supporting BREEAM (or equivalent) assessments in collaboration with BREEAM Assessors.
  • Conducting sustainability-related assurance activities and managing sustainability opportunities and risks.
  • Ensuring project design and optioneering integrate sustainability requirements.
  • Conducting site visits, producing environmental reports, and advising teams on best practices.
  • Overseeing environmental incident investigations and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to achieve sustainability outcomes.
  • Compiling waste management statistics and recording energy use to monitor carbon emissions.
Requirements

Essential Qualifications:
  • Prior experience in Environmental and Sustainability roles, preferably in rail or civil engineering.
  • Relevant qualification (degree/diploma/HNC/HND).
  • Experience in construction project environments.
  • Prior ecological experience.
  • Membership in IEMA (Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment) or equivalent.
  • Full UK driving license.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Broader sustainability experience (e.g., Carbon Reduction, Circular Economy, Climate Change).
  • Experience working within rail settings.
