Senior Project Accountant

Location: Peterborough (Office-based with occasional travel to project sites)

Are you an experienced finance professional with a passion for large‑scale projects? We’re looking for a Senior Project Accountant to join a dynamic team and play a key role in delivering financial excellence across major infrastructure projects in the energy and renewables sector.

About the Role

As a Senior Project Accountant, you’ll work closely with the Head of Finance and Project Managers to provide accurate, insightful financial analysis and reporting. This is a hands‑on role within a busy accounts department, supporting project delivery teams and ensuring compliance with statutory and group reporting requirements.

You’ll be involved in everything from project cost accounting and management accounts preparation to budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow reporting. This is a fantastic opportunity to make an impact on high‑profile projects and contribute to the success of a growing organisation.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare weekly and monthly project reports with detailed cost analysis and variance commentary.
• Manage long‑term project accounting, including capital expenditure recognition.
• Produce monthly management accounts (P&L and Balance Sheet) and consolidated reporting.
• Support budgeting and forecasting for major projects.
• Ensure statutory compliance (VAT, HMRC, year‑end accounts, group accounts).
• Oversee asset and inventory management controls.
• Provide financial insight for M&A activities, including due diligence and post‑acquisition integration.
• Collaborate with project teams to deliver real‑time cost information and financial dashboards.
• Maintain compliance with ISO standards (ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO27001).

What We’re Looking For

• Qualified Accountant (ACCA/CIMA) with proven experience in project accounting.
• Strong background in long‑term construction projects within energy, oil & gas, or renewables.
• Experience with ERP systems and advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups).
• Commercial awareness and understanding of legal requirements.
• Ability to manage deadlines in a fast‑paced environment with excellent attention to detail.
• Leadership skills and experience managing junior team members.
