A leading university in London is looking for a Senior Maintenance Technician to oversee the operation and maintenance of critical building services. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, manage staff development, and work with outside contractors. Essential qualifications include an M&E apprenticeship or NVQ level 3, as well as significant experience in building services maintenance. About us:

King's is a world leading research and teaching university. The Operational Engineering Department provides internal expertise and maintenance to the University's estate, and the team at Guy's Campus are looking to add a Senior Maintenance Technician to their already successful team.

About the role:

  • Develop a complete familiarity with the operation and recovery of all business-critical systems within the buildings
  • Carry out the planned preventative maintenance programme and ensure compliance with all relevant guidelines, statutory acts and regulations. Update site-specific work schedules and re-programme regularly
  • Support the team with the allocation of reactive maintenance ensuring SLAs are met
  • Assist with the personal development of team members
  • Maintain a Safe Systems of Work process and manage permits
  • Liaise with, monitor and control the activities of all outside contractors working on site
  • Liaise with suppliers, raise orders, and ensure sufficient stock is kept on site
  • Assist with the organisation and completion of water management tasks
  • Manage and conduct fault finding across all buildings
  • Deal responsibly with emergencies and breakdowns
  • Occasional working at height, working in confined spaces, carrying tools and the role varies from being office based to working in numerous buildings
  • Attendance may be required occasionally outside normal hours to deal with certain maintenance procedures and specialist critical system contractors
  • Deliver and comply with all Statutory, Company and Client specific environmental, health, safety and quality standards applicable to the College environment
  • You will be expected to deliver a high level of customer focused service and participate in training when required (Fit for King's, etc).

This is a full-time role (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.

About you:

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. City & Guilds or time serviced apprenticeship in either M&E OR an NVQ level 3 in either M&E
  2. Grades A-C in English and Maths
  3. Intermediate (or above) MS Office skills
  4. Awareness of Health Safety regulations and guidance
  5. Managerial experience
  6. Significant experience maintaining and operating building services in a complex building
  7. Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines, and ability to prioritise workload
  8. Self-motivated, with the ability to work without supervision

Desirable criteria

  1. First Aid training/qualification
  2. Legionella awareness
  3. IOSH Managing Safely
