Purpose of the Job
As the Senior Investment Accountant, you’ll lead a team of professionals to manage the accounting and reporting of the Group’s investment portfolio. You’ll be the go-to person for all investment accounting, ensuring data accuracy and timely delivery to relevant stakeholders. You’ll manage key activities including maintaining accurate accounting records, delivering consolidated investment reporting, and providing management information reporting to the Financial Controller, Ki. You’ll also lead and motivate your team, manage the implementation of correct accounting policy for new investment types, and provide impact analysis of changes. This role requires close collaboration with senior management across the Ki Commercial and Brit Finance teams. Principal Accountabilities
- INVESTMENT ACCOUNTING/REPORTING: Manage the Investment Accounting function to deliver timely and accurate accounting data within the appropriate systems, understanding contents prior to posting to the general ledger. Work closely with Investment managers to ensure accountabilities are met.
- Manage key reconciliations for custodians and investment managers for all investment portfolios.
- Own, manage and develop the internal investment data warehouse, PAM and Finance MI systems ensuring data integrity and efficiency.
- Produce required Investment reports/extracts on a timely basis for Board / Committee packs in the agreed format and by required entity.
- Complete accurate investment analysis and reporting to satisfy required timescales (e.g., MI, statutory/regulatory, tax).
- Deliver accurate and timely ledger entries for the Group’s investments and their performance.
- Lead all investment-related Group reporting to Fairfax delivery.
- Lead in producing accounting policy memos for new investment types and provide impact analysis of changes to IFRS and UK GAAP.
- Assess valuation methodology of the investment portfolio.
- Develop and deliver timely, accurate investment reporting packs in collaboration with the Investment Team.
- Ensure correct accounting and tax treatments are applied and regulatory reporting requirements are met.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of investing practices and regulations.
- Represent Accounting within Investment and Treasury elements of the Ki Commercial team, providing input to decision making and updating the accounting team on upcoming activity.
- Maintain and operate control and compliance framework over investment accounting/reporting.
- Involve in Finance Department and Group ad hoc projects as required.
- Liaise with partner stakeholder investment accounting, tax, internal investment teams, investment managers, custodians and auditors as appropriate.
- Assist in delivering key regulatory returns within the Group including the QAD, QMA and AAD to Lloyd’s.
- Complete ad-hoc projects for Investment and Treasury elements of the Ki Commercial team.
INVESTMENT PROCESSING
- To manage the Investment Accounting team to deliver: a robust middle office process for booking and settlement of specified trades; monitor Fund Investments and ensure all redemptions/subscriptions are managed in a controlled process.
- Collate external data (e.g., pricing, corporate actions) and deliver to the Brit team or assigned third party.
- Discharge other responsibilities as required.
Education, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
A successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Highly driven and ambitious self-starter with effective prioritisation and organisational skills.
- ACA/ACCA (or equivalent) with excellent understanding of investment products, accounting, finance systems and processes.
- Intermediate/Advanced Microsoft Office experience and knowledge of general ledger systems (e.g., Dynamics GP).
- Strong understanding of current insurance industry standards and regulatory requirements, with specific focus on Bermuda and Lloyds.
- Confident in dealing with senior executives and management with excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Strong leadership and staff management capability with excellent numeric and analytical skills and attention to detail.
