Job Title: Senior Engineering Manager

Murphy is recruiting for a Senior Engineering Manager to work with Energy on the Norwich to Tilbury scheme, as part of our delivery of the Great Grid partnership (GGP).

We offer design, construction and commissioning services, delivering Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) projects for regulated and private customers, with solutions in conventional power and energy transition markets. Responsibilities
  • Overall responsibility for the engineering function (engineering, design management, quality assurance and control, document control) on and off site for the business unit, including day-to-day management of all engineering activities.
  • Implement the Better Engineered strategic driver as part of the 10-year plan. Represent the function internally and externally.
  • Lead engagement with internal and external designers and specialist supply chain partners.
  • Form project delivery strategies with regards to design engineering.
  • Ensure implementation of Group Design Management Policy and Procedural requirements.
  • Lead identification of technical risks and ensure mitigations on all projects.
  • Ensure governance/assurance processes with key external project asset stakeholders are adhered to and implemented.
  • Drive Value Engineering and Innovation to improve time, cost, safety, or carbon, including design standardisation.
  • Influence and review design solutions in area of expertise.
  • Ensure Operational, SHES and Quality input into design development, considering temporary works and methodologies.
  • Promote engineering innovation and GIS/BIM and Digital Field tool solutions for project delivery and handover.
  • Manage and pursue performance improvement of the engineering capability and function; help establish best practice policies and procedures.
  • Support career management and learning & development of all engineering staff, including personal development reviews.
  • Support work winning as the technical leader in bids, applying engineering, design management and quality.
  • Support commercial and procurement teams in accurate scope definition and contractual matters with suppliers and the client.
  • Recruit engineers and design managers to meet business requirements.
  • Maintain high-quality standards and promote best practice in health, safety and environmental matters with SHESQ.

Qualifications
  • Relevant leadership experience in the engineering function of a major UK contractor in rail, highways, utilities, tunnelling, or heavy civil engineering.
  • Strong technical capability and leadership, with knowledge of BIM.
  • Leadership with emotional intelligence to continually improve and develop others.
  • Ability to prioritise objectives, meet deadlines, influence, and build trust and respect.
  • Experience of technical leadership on major infrastructure projects and programmes.
  • Knowledge of project management processes through successful contract management experience.
  • Good understanding of professional development processes for civil engineers.
