The Gastro-Intestinal (GI) Surgery and Gastroenterology departments have services of national and international reputation. They provide general and specialist services to patients with acute and chronic conditions, both benign and malignant. The Upper GI Unit is the regional centre for oesophago-gastric cancer and specialises in oesophageal and gastric resections. As a high volume centre we perform over 100 major resections per year in addition to gastric GIST surgery. Operative approaches (right chest, left chest, transhiatal, three-stage) are tailored to patients needs using a range of laparoscopic, thoracoscopic, robotic and open techniques. We offer a pioneering one stop staging package for oesophago-gastric cancer so that patients can have a number of investigations in one visit and leave the hospital with a clear treatment plan.
Our Trust values define who we are as an organisation and help shape our culture. They guide us in all our behaviours, actions and interactions which underpin how we do things. These values were developed with the input of almost 1,800 colleagues and reflect what we want to be like, both now and in the future. Whether you work at Guys Hospital, St Thomas Hospital, Evelina London Childrens Hospital, Royal Brompton Hospital, Harefield Hospital, our off-site offices, or in our community services in Lambeth or Southwark, our values are relevant to you. The values were launched in 2024, at the same time as our Trust strategy. The strategy sets out what we will do and the values describe how we will do it.
