The Bristol Urological Institute wishes to appoint a Senior Clinical Fellow in Urology to commence November 2025. The role offers significant opportunity to participate in ongoing research and service activities.
The post holder will participate in a 1:12 on‑call rota and be responsible for day‑to‑day management of ward patients. The role also requires active involvement in service activities within the department.
The Bristol Urological Institute has an active teaching programme. Fellows and Registrars are expected to actively participate; the post holder will undertake teaching sessions for medical students and junior doctors as required, and may cover a colleague’s duties to enable teaching delivery.
A half‑day dedicated research session is provided for all fellows and SpRs. Fellows are expected to participate in ongoing projects and undertake at least one audit project during their training.
It is desirable that candidates have experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices, or equivalent. Overseas applicants must be eligible for registration with the General Medical Council and have passed the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a minimum overall score of 7.5. Applicants should clearly outline their eligibility in the application.
Southmead Hospital offers a comprehensive Urology service through the Bristol Urological Institute. The Institute is a tertiary referral centre with a global reputation and is a major National and International Education Centre. The teaching programme includes national operative courses, and an impressive research database has been achieved. The BUI has a dedicated Learning and Research Facility, three dedicated theatres (including a Robotic Theatre), an Outpatients Department, a Urodynamics Service, and an on‑site Lithotripsy Service. There is a large Intensive Care Unit and Renal Transplant Unit on site, supporting the Department’s work.
The BUI has a Da Vinci Robot in a dedicated theatre to support its oncological work as the Network Centre for the South West. We are proud to be a Teaching Hospital. The Department is committed to providing a range of highly specialised services as well as routine procedures, attracting a large number of inpatient and outpatient referrals from outside the District. General urological services are offered, with specialist services in Urological Cancer Management, Functional and Reconstructive Urology, Stone Disease Management and Renal Failure.
