Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to apply for a part time (15- hour/ 0.4 Whole- Time Equivalent) band 7 Advanced Specialist BMS position in the Chemistry Lab within the Hammersmith Hospital site of NWLP.

In this role, you would constitute part of the two Whole Time Equivalent band 7 Senior staff primarily responsible for running the Chemistry Lab including the oversight of the operation of the Abbott Alinity Ci analysers and reporting directly to the Site Lead.

You would be responsible for the day-to-day management of a section within the laboratory under the direction of the Site Lead including the provision of the necessary training and supervision of staff within the Chemistry Laboratory to ensure correct procedures and protocols are carried out. The lab is also privileged to provide a specialised Intra- operative Parathyroid monitoring service in Theatres.

The laboratory also operates a 24-hour-seven- day -a-week service and therefore participation on Lates & weekend roster is required.

You will need to possess a relevant professional qualification to degree level or equivalent, an MSc, FIBMS or equivalent in a relevant discipline and HCPC registration. You will need to have experience post HCPC registration in Clinical Chemistry and excellent technical, interpersonal and IT skills.

  • Manage daily operations of a laboratory section under the Laboratory Manager'sguidance, ensuring efficient service delivery.
  • Collaborate with team members to provide a professional clinical laboratory service andsupport departmental objectives.
  • Develop professional expertise and specialist skills, while training and supervising staffto uphold high standards.
  • Coordinate specialist clinical technical and scientific services, including research andaudits, while fostering a culture of quality compliance with accrediting and regulatorystandards.

NWLP Induction

The NWLP induction will run on the first Monday of each month (provided it does not fall on a bank holiday) and includes laboratory training (for relevant laboratory roles). All new staff must attend the NWLP induction during their first week with NWLP.

Person Specification
  • HCPC Registration
  • MSc, or IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma, or any of the IBMS higher qualifications
