Job summary

A leading education provider in Bicester is looking for a SEN Education and Engagement Specialist to design and deliver personalized learning sessions for young people with special educational needs. This role focuses on 1:1 support in homes or specialist settings, engaging with students to help them rediscover learning. The ideal candidate will have experience in education and strong behaviour management skills, offering a competitive hourly rate and travel allowances.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year experience as a teacher, tutor or SEN specialist.
• Background in Primary, Secondary or Post 16 teaching.
• Up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding and child protection.

Responsibilities

At Fresh Start in Education, we’re looking for proactive, person-centred people to design and deliver personalised learning sessions that spark curiosity, confidence and a sense of hope for young people currently out of education in the Oxfordshire area. You’ll inspire students to rediscover the joy of learning in a way that works for them - one learner, one relationship, one small step at a time.

With allowances for travel and resources and full support from our dedicated team, this flexible role gives you the freedom to deliver learning in the ways that you feel best meet the student’s needs and interests. What you’ll be doing:

• Working 1:1 or 2:1 with children and young people in their homes or specialist settings in Oxfordshire
• Planning and delivering personalised, creative, educational sessions that reflect each learner’s needs, interests and abilities, particularly in Maths and English
• Running sessions during the school day (term time only) that typically last 3 to 5 hours
• Engaging with students who may have ASD, ADHD, SEMH needs, GDD or complex needs and helping them achieve outcomes at their pace
• Working flexibly as part of a compassionate, expert-led team that values you and your skills

Who we’re looking for:

We welcome applications from individuals who have:

• Experience (at least 1 year) as teachers, tutors, teaching assistants, SEN specialists and education professionals who have directly supported young people with SEN/SEMH needs
• A background in Primary, Secondary, Functional Skills or Post 16 teaching, or specialist SEND environments
• De‑escalation and behaviour management skills
• A minimum of 2 consistent weekdays available
• An up‑to‑date knowledge of safeguarding and child protection
