School Finance Officer

Salary: (£31,000 – £34,500)

Hours: 37 hours per week/year round

Permanent role

Location: Wigan

Our client are looking to appoint a Finance Officer to support a School Trusts central finance function. This role is key in ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliant systems and efficient support to schools and senior leaders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide financial advice to School Business Managers, Headteachers and budget holders.
  • Support month-end processes, reconciliations and management accounts.
  • Assist with financial forecasts, business plans and end-of-year accounts.
  • Ensure VAT compliance and submit returns in line with HMRC requirements.
  • Support internal/external audit activity and statutory returns.
  • Support payroll, including pension administration and control account checks.
  • Prepare supplier and payroll payment runs.
  • Manage credit card processes, Amazon Business account and bank statement checks.
  • Post journals, manage inter-academy transfers and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Ensure compliance with Trust financial procedures and reporting deadlines.
  • Handle financial correspondence and general finance administration.
Person Specification
  • Experience in financial administration and working to accounting deadlines.
  • AAT Level 4 qualification.
  • GCSE English & Maths (C/4+).
  • Strong Excel and finance systems skills.
  • Up-to-date financial standards knowledge.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and work collaboratively.
  • Flexible, professional and detail-focused.
Desirable
  • Experience in a Multi Academy Trust or education finance.
  • Knowledge of PSF and IMP systems.
  • CIMA/ACCA (qualified or working towards).
