Electrical & Controls Technician - Mars Petcare

Position: Electrical & Controls Technician Location: Melton Mowbray Salary: £51,900 - £56,000 (inclusive of shift allowances, DOE) Shift Pattern: 12‑hour shift – 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM (2 days, 2 nights, 4 off)

Overview

We are at the forefront of innovation in high‑speed food processing and are searching for a talented Electrical & Controls Technician to join our team. This role focuses on maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving the reliability of complex process and high‑speed food processing equipment, including robotic, PLC, and predictive maintenance technologies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Repair, adjust, and maintain processing, filling, conveying, and packaging machinery using established maintenance reliability practices.
  • Provide equipment troubleshooting and breakdown maintenance for automated and electromechanical equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance activities and systematic observation of operational effectiveness.
  • Participate in continuous improvement teams (Lean, Kaizen) and new project activities.
  • Conduct root‑cause failure analysis on major breakdowns and recurring problems.
  • Develop, track, and communicate maintenance metrics to identify and eliminate recurring equipment issues.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Practical electrical engineering skills (HNC/HND or NVQ Level 4 apprenticeship, or BS7671 compliance).
  • Experience with precision instrumentation repair, calibration, and related technical equipment.
  • Strong problem‑solving abilities, curiosity, and a drive to improve processes and efficiency.
  • Ability to adapt to various electrical power supplies and control systems, with willingness to learn new technologies.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and maintaining automated or electromechanical machinery, or a related background.
