Job summary

An NHS Foundation Trust in London is looking for a Resident doctor in Gastroenterology. Resident doctor in Gastroenterology

This is a 12 month post based at University College Hospital in the Gastroenterology Department. It is a unique opportunity to join a large tertiary gastroenterology unit and gain experience looking after a wide range of patients including IBD, nutrition, hepatology, pancreatobiliary medicine and upper GI. The post-holder contributes to inpatient care on the ward, specialist MDT and has opportunities to gain experience in upper and lower GI endoscopy, GI physiology and other specialist GI services. The role includes protected time for clinical audit, service improvement and research.

This is a perfect opportunity for candidates considering applying to gastroenterology specialist training in the future who have already completed at least FY2.

Main duties of the job

Our UCLH Gastroenterology unit is one of the largest in the UK and the post offers exposure to all aspects of Gastroenterology, covered by the 14 Consultants within the department. Subspecialty areas of expertise include clinical nutrition/intestinal failure, oesophagogastric/laser medicine, inflammatory bowel disease, GI physiology and pancreaticobiliary medicine. There are a number of educational meetings run each week, including a journal club, specialist multidisciplinary meetings, a "morning report" and seminars with invited speakers. The department has a committed audit programme. The post holder may also take an active role in undergraduate teaching.

Knowledge and Qualifications
  • MBBS or equivalent Full registration
  • Eligible for full registration with GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice.
Experience
  • Minimum 1 year previous experience in a substantive medical post

  • Sound basic clinical skills including history taking, clinical examination and appropriate investigation.
  • Ability to make and implement management plans and clinical protocols.
