Overview

The Research Nurse/Trials Practitioner will be a member of the Cambridge Cancer Trials Team working in the Haematology trials team. The post-holder will work closely with the health care teams associated with the multidisciplinary team, primarily in Multiple Myeloma. This will include the CNS team as well as the Haematology consultants.

Responsibilities
  • Identify patients eligible for clinical trials and attend a weekly MDT meeting.
  • Provide information and support for patients entering clinical trials.
  • Co-ordinate trial patient treatment, assessment, follow-up and data collection according to specific clinical trial protocols.
  • Liaise with relevant staff in departments including Research Facilities, Haematology Day Unit, Radiotherapy, Pharmacy, Radiology, Outpatients and the Haematology/Transplant ward teams, Research & Development and Ethics departments.
  • Provide high quality, patient-focused clinical research for the Haematology Trials Team.
  • Identify eligible clinical research participants, provide information and support to patients/participants, recruit and obtain consent, coordinate study treatment/interventions, assess, develop and implement specialist nursing care and data collection according to study protocols in accordance with ICH Good Clinical Practice, EU Clinical Trials legislation and the NHS research governance framework.
  • Provide specialist advice and support to Haematology Trials patients and liaise with other staff.

The Portfolio comprises Multiple Myeloma, Acute Myeloblastic Leukaemia and Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia, Bone Marrow Transplant, Myelodysplastic Disorder and Myeloproliferative Neoplasm, Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, and Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia.
