City of Wolverhampton Council's Ranger Service provides a visible presence across the city, by patrolling parks and green spaces, engaging with the local community, including 'friends groups' and volunteers. The post holder will assist in developing recreational use in these areas, focusing on environmental work, safety, and security while collaborating with the public, community groups, and volunteers.

Duties will include:

  • To carry out a high visible and high-profile patrolling of the parks and green spaces.
  • To actively discourage anti-social behaviour or behaviour that contravenes local byelaws
  • To report incidents of vandalism and health and safety issues.
  • To undertake some environmental maintenance works such as litter picking, cleansing and minor grounds maintenance works.
  • To undertake minor repairs to play areas across the city.
  • To operate, maintain, inspect and undertake water safety checks to features at the city’s lakes, pools, fountains and ponds.
  • To maintain and cleanse sports facilities to a set standard.
  • To undertake educational activities with small groups.

You will need:

  • To hold a current full UK driving licence
  • To hold a minimum of 3 GCSE’s or equivalent
  • To have experience of park ranger duties

The successful candidates will be requested to take part in a DBS check.

Our working arrangements

All council roles are allocated to either a fixed, field or flexible work style. Some roles are agile which enable and empower employees to maximise their performance and productivity, whilst maintaining a healthy work life balance. Roles with a fixed workstyle work in a fixed permanent council location. Roles with a field workstyle are usually allocated where employees are required to be out working in the community with a minimum requirement for 'touch down' space at any council location. Roles with a flexible workstyle have a flexible base location to meet the needs of the business and employees can work from a mixture of home or any council office, partner/client, or external location, as required to meet service requirements.
