The Defence Infrastructure Cost Centre supports projects of varying complexity and size, offering services in Programme and Project Management, Project Planning, Cost Engineering, Risk Management, and Commercial Disciplines. We engage in the full project lifecycle, from pre-contract to post-contract, managing infrastructure projects valued from hundreds of thousands to over £200M.

We are expanding our team to meet client needs and are seeking talented individuals to support our Defence client portfolio while advancing their careers on complex and challenging projects.

Job Description

Important: Due to the sensitive nature of these projects, applicants must be SOLE UK Nationals eligible for UK MoD Security Clearance (SC). Existing SC Clearance is desirable, but we encourage all qualified candidates to apply.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Risk Professional to join the Defence North team, supporting project risk management across various construction infrastructure projects in the North of the UK, including Midlands, Cumbria, North East, and Scotland, with opportunities across the UK. The team comprises over 40 members, based mainly in Manchester, with others in Nottingham, Leeds, Barrow, and Glasgow.

This role requires experience in project or programme environments within Defence, Nuclear, Infrastructure, or Construction industries. Knowledge of Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) is advantageous.

Main Purpose of Role
  1. Risk Identification & Assessment: Conduct risk workshops to identify threats and opportunities, analyzing their potential impacts on project scope and objectives.
  2. Strategic Risk Mitigation: Develop and implement strategies to minimize disruptions and promote project stability.
  3. Risk Register & Reporting: Maintain risk registers, produce and present risk reports to communicate threats, opportunities, and actions effectively.
  4. Stakeholder Collaboration: Work with project managers, clients, and leadership to align risk strategies with business goals.
  5. Data-Driven Decision Making: Use risk analysis tools and QRA models to assess project exposure and inform contingency planning.
  6. Process and Procedure: Create risk and opportunity management plans, ensuring alignment with industry standards.
  7. Risk Workshops & Training: Lead sessions to foster a proactive risk management culture within teams.
Qualifications

Candidates should demonstrate:

  • Experience in project/programme environments within Defence, Nuclear, Infrastructure, or Construction sectors.
  • Expertise in risk management frameworks aligned with ISO31000, ensuring integrated risk solutions across portfolios, programmes, and projects.
  • Proficiency with risk management software such as ARM, @Risk, Safran, Primavera Risk Analysis.
  • Ability to conduct Quantitative Risk Analysis and generate insightful reports for decision-making.
  • Understanding of interconnected disciplines like cost management, scheduling, and change management.
Desirable
  • Knowledge of project life cycles in relevant industries (e.g., RIBA, GRIP).
  • Relevant qualifications such as APM Project Risk Management, Institute of Risk Management certifications.
Work Environment & Security

We support hybrid working to balance work and home life. Attendance at offices or sites is approximately 60%, adaptable to business needs. The office environment fosters collaboration and learning.
