We're excited to offer a unique opportunity for a talented Process Engineering Specialist to play a key role in the development and installation of Arla Lockerbie's new UHT Centre of Excellence. This is more than just a maintenance role; it's a chance to help shape a world class facility from the ground up.

As a Maintenance & Engineering Specialist, you will be involved from the very beginning of this landmark project, supporting the design, installation, and commissioning of state‑of‑the‑art UHT technology.

Once operational, your specialist knowledge and hands‑on experience will be crucial in optimising plant performance, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring the smooth, reliable operation of the facility.

You’ll work closely with cross‑functional teams, external partners, and project engineers to bring our vision to life and set new standards in UHT production.

Key responsibilities:
  • Support the installation, commissioning, and validation of new UHT production equipment.
  • Collaborate with project and engineering teams to ensure all equipment meets operational and safety standards.
  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance strategies to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues efficiently, maintaining production reliability.
  • Contribute to process optimisation and continuous improvement, using data and insights to enhance performance.
  • Provide training and technical support to operational teams, ensuring knowledge transfer.
  • Play an active role in creating a safe and compliant working environment.
What we're looking for:
  • A strong engineering or maintenance background, ideally in a food, beverage, or FMCG manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with installation and commissioning of new equipment or facilities.
  • Strong problem skills and a proactive, hands‑on approach.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across technical and operational teams.
  • Knowledge of UHT processes or dairy manufacturing is advantageous (not essential).
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

  • Arla Lockerbie has received c.£100 million investment since 2005, of which £34m CAPEX investment has recently been secured to implement new technology on site & house a new facilities building (includes; onsite gym, canteen, meeting rooms, wellbeing room etc).
  • Proposal is planned for a further C.£100 million in 2027 to create production centre of excellence in our Lockerbie Dairy.
  • Current project is underway to complete the largest anaerobic digestion plant in Europe
  • If you piled the blocks of cheese we make at Lockerbie in a year end to end, the height would be equivalent to 2,428 Eiffel Towers
  • The amount of whey concentrate site produces each year would fill 4 Olympic size (50 meter) swimming pool
  • Our Arla Lockerbie site was open by HRH Queen Elizabeth in 1975
