Job summary

A leading engineering recruitment firm is looking for a Principal Structural Engineer based in Manchester. This role requires over 10 years of structural design experience at a senior level, along with strong leadership skills to guide engineers and CAD technicians. The successful candidate will ensure design deliverables meet safety and quality standards, while also being involved in project management and client communications. A chartered engineer qualification is preferred for this position.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in regulated industries like Rail, Water, Oil and gas, Nuclear, Highways, Bridges.
• Good level of IT skills required.

Role : Principal Structural Engineer

Location : Manchester

Salary : c£70K (Depending on Experience)

Job Description

• Ensure design team produce design deliverables that satisfy safety and quality requirements.
• Approve design deliverables, DRAs, reports and specifications
• Identify appropriate and efficient design solutions from scopes and site visits and communicate these to client and project team
• Direct and develop engineers, CAD technicians and graduates.
• Guide design in compliance with relevant technical, professional and water company standards.
• Ensure project change for design packages is fully implemented and recorded.
• Ensure work is undertaken using formal processes and procedures.
• Estimate hours required for design packages
• Attend and present designs at ALM, KM meetings and similar
• Review, interpret and brief standards, procedures and changes to them
• Undertake the role of Professional Head for discipline and Responsible Engineer / CRE for specific projects
• Provide key technical guidance for projects and tenders and ensure continuous improvement of technical standards.

Experience Required

• 10 years’ structural design experience at senior or principal engineering level
• Significant structural design experience within one or more of the following regulated industries :
• Rail, Water, Oil and gas, Nuclear, Highways, Bridges
• Graduate or HND
• Good level IT
• Chartered engineer
