Job description
Overview

The post holder is required to undertake routine portering and domestic activities under the direction of the Patient Environment Services at the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust. Tasks are task‑driven, require a basic level of competence within a limited amount of time and must align with the National Cleaning Standards, departmental Operational Procedures and Trust Policies.

Responsibilities

Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with a range of hospital staff, the public and colleagues across the Trust and attend monthly staff meetings.

Carry out safe Patient Movement and wear correct uniform and PPE in line with Trust Policies.

When requested carry out cleaning duties in a hospital environment, report and removal of any damaged furniture, fittings, equipment and décor, carry out mortuary duties in line with Standing Operating Procedures.

Change, handle and replace medical gas cylinders in line with Trust Policy, removal and disposal of waste in accordance with the Waste Disposal Policy.

Observe safe working methods under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 using relevant risk assessments and standing operating procedures.

Delivery and collection of meal trolleys and provisions; collect and deliver appropriate blood products in line with standard operating procedures.

Make sure all equipment is in a good clean order and report any faults. Required to attend any relevant training courses including all mandatory training, applicable to the position.

Cleaning of internal and external windows, doors and glazing when requested; maintain professional standards in behaviour and attitudes at all times.

Performance of duties in the event of a major incident, fire, trauma and cardiac arrest, helipad duties, safe collection of notes containing patient records and safeguarding of buildings under lock up/down policy.

Qualifications
  • Basic numeracy and literacy skills
  • Previous operational manual handling experience
  • Ability to deal with information sensitively and confidentially
  • Is able to demonstrate and address manual handling assessments on the safe transportation of light and medium items
  • Deal with a diverse range of people face to face
  • Driving Licence
  • Ability to travel between the Trusts sites as required
  • To demonstrate flexibility in approach to work patterns
Desirable Criteria
  • Driving Licence (FGH and WGH)
  • Certificate in COSHH
  • Knowledge of cleaning in a large setting or Health Care environment
  • Deal with internal and external communication using both verbal and written material
  • Able to communicate within a team and provide feedback to colleagues and line manager
  • Deal with day to day workloads in food hygiene procedures, able to follow written schedules
  • Deal with day to day workloads linked to hygiene procedures and able to follow written cleaning schedules
  • Reporting equipment breakdown and faults on work equipment to supervisors
  • Have the abilities in listening, sharing and receiving support and advice
  • Able to complete records including timesheets and departmental documentation, You must have appropriate UK professional registration
