Job summary

A leading healthcare organization in Greater London is seeking a Footcare Assistant Apprentice to join its Community Podiatry Team. This role involves providing foot care and administrative duties, with thorough training in orthotic manufacture. The ideal candidate will complete a Level 5 Support Worker Apprenticeship. This is a Band 3 fixed-term position, with the possibility of progressing to a Band 4 role upon successful apprenticeship completion. The position also includes home visits and ensuring compliance with health standards.

Qualifications

  • In-house orthotic/insole manufacture training required.
  • Care certificate must be obtained if not already held.

Job description

This Footcare Assistant Apprenticeship involves part of a highly motivated Community Podiatry Team, providing foot-care, orthotic manufacture and administrative duties. As part of the position you will need to complete Support Worker (Foot care Assistant) Podiatry Apprenticeship level 5. In house training will be given on orthotic manufacture. While completing the apprenticeship you will be working as a foot care assistant undertaking basic nail care and orthotics/insole manufacture.

This is a development post Band 3 Fixed Term with potential offer of a band 4 Footcare/Support worker post on successful completion of the apprenticeship.

The service provides foot care to patients with a number of Podiatric and medical conditions such as diabetes, neuropathy, chronic diseases, wound management, musculoskeletal conditions and terminally ill patients.

Responsibilities
  • Provide nail/core podiatry care to patients pre-assessed by a podiatrist.
  • Manufacture insoles and orthotics and issue advice on orthotic solutions.
  • Assist and carry out wound dressings as directed by podiatrists.
  • Assist with nail surgery preparation and dressings.
  • Provide administration support to the community-based podiatry service.
  • Participate in departmental audits.
  • Behave consistently with the values and beliefs of the organisation and promote them on a day-to-day basis.
  • Carry out home visits.
  • Act as a role model to colleagues, always seeking to maintain the highest standards of professionalism.
  • Identify risk status of feet, including patients with diabetes, and advise podiatrist as appropriate.
  • Treat high-risk patients with diabetes, neuropathy, wounds and other chronic diseases.
  • Be involved in infection prevention and control, health and safety, including cleaning clinical areas, monitoring appointment availability, ensuring adequate stock levels, maintaining equipment.
  • Undertake administrative duties to ensure effective patient care, such as stock management, record keeping, monitoring emails, scheduling appointments.
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation, including COSHH, temperature readings, workplace risk assessment, infection prevention control and waste disposal.
  • Complete in-house orthotic/insole manufacture and obtain the required care certificate if not already held.
  • Achieve and provide evidence of completion of the Support Worker Apprenticeship at level 5.
