What is in it for you

£17.33 per hour plus 1/3 shift allowance for night shift equates to £23.10 per hour. Over time is time ½, time ½ and double time depending on when worked. Temp to perm role. Working hour week is 42 hours. Monday to Thursday – 8pm‑7am (4 x 10.5‑hour shifts with 2 x 20‑minute breaks). Newton Aycliffe location. Once perm, you gain 24 days’ holiday plus statutory.

The Business

Our client based in Newton Aycliffe is seeking to appoint a Plater to work a permanent night shift (Monday to Thursday 8pm‑7am, 4 x 10.5‑hour shifts). This is a temp‑to‑perm role following a successful probation period. The organisation has a strong local footprint in the Newton Aycliffe area and is strategically placed with a good road network. It offers full in‑house capabilities – estimating, designing, detailing, specialist coats, installation and contract management. As a Plater specialising in Structural work, you will work in a state‑of‑the‑art facility covering 90,000 sq. feet. The organisation also has a very healthy order book, offering role security and opportunities on both local & national projects. A recent £2.5 M investment has improved site automation. Our client supplies structural steel and fabricated parts to the construction trade, serving institutions such as schools, hospitals, universities and MOD contracts.

Role
  • Work as a structural plater on a permanent night shift.
  • Work with complex structural engineering drawings.
  • Position plates, box up and level off.
  • Use oxyacetylene burning equipment to manipulate steel plate.
  • Add plate sections to columns and beams.
  • Mark up beams with weld sizes.
  • Apply fitting.
  • Identify requirements for welding.
  • Ensure quality compliance.
  • Track up welds.
