Job description
Overview

Wyre Forest District Council are looking for a Planning Officer to support the formulation and implementation of policies and strategies related to planning for our District. This role involves working on landscaping, green infrastructure and other policies to help shape the environment, meet the needs of residents and businesses, and to ensure sustainable growth. The post is suitable for hybrid working.

The Planning Officer will collaborate with a dedicated team, engage with stakeholders, and contribute to plan-making while also supporting the Development Management function. The council has an up-to-date Development Plan with a 5-year housing land supply and is commencing a Local Plan Review to meet the requirements of the new NPPF and housing numbers.

Responsibilities
  • Support the formulation and implementation of planning policies and strategies for the District.
  • Lead on plan-making activities and provide support to the Development Management function.

  • Contribute to landscaping, green infrastructure, and related policy areas to promote sustainable growth.
Requirements
  • A degree in a relevant subject.
  • A full driving license and suitable vehicle.
  • Experience in dealing with members of the public or councillors.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to write clearly and concisely.
Salary and Benefits
  • This post is hybrid work-ready.
  • The entry point is £31,206. For candidates with Corporate Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute, the starting salary is £33,819.
  • This is a Fixed Term Contract for 2 years.
Additional Information
  • Some duties may require physical effort and mobility on an occasional basis; ability to undertake the full range of duties for contracted hours is required, including on-site work and visits to remote areas within the District.
  • Flexible working hours; able to work outside normal office hours if necessary, including evening meetings.
  • The closing date for applications is 2 October 2025, with a reserve to close early if a high volume of suitable applications is received.
  • The post holder is not to prepare any plans on behalf of any applicant to the Council for planning and/or Building Regulations (see Scheme and Conditions of Service paragraph 70).
