Job description

Part time Company Bookkeeper – Exeter – c£35k FTE – Permanent – Flexible on hours

Looking for a bookkeeping role where you can really become part of the business rather than just support it from the side lines?

Trial Balance Consulting are delighted to be working exclusively with a well-established, family run business based near Exeter Airport to recruit a Part Time Bookkeeper.

The business is friendly, down to earth, and home to many long-standing employees who genuinely enjoy working together. This is an important role within the organisation, offering responsibility, visibility, and the chance to become a valued part of the team.

This is a hands‑on position covering the day to day bookkeeping function for the business. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, running weekly payroll, and supporting general finance administration before handing information over to the external accountants. An on‑site presence is important, as you will be a visible and trusted part of the office team.

The client is flexible on how the hours are structured, with options for two to three full days per week or shorter days spread across the week, depending on what suits the successful candidate.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Day to day bookkeeping using Xero or similar accounting software
  • Processing purchase and sales invoices and maintaining ledgers
  • Completing bank reconciliations and managing cash postings
  • Supporting weekly payroll processing
  • Assisting with journals, control account reconciliations, and month end routines
  • Preparing information and schedules for the external accountants
  • Providing general finance administration and ad hoc support across the office

We are looking for an experienced Bookkeeper who is comfortable working independently, enjoys being based in the office, and takes a practical, methodical approach to their work. Familiarity with Xero and payroll processes would be helpful, but strong all‑round bookkeeping experience and a willingness to get stuck in are more important.

This is a genuinely lovely opportunity to step into a well‑established role within a business that values loyalty, continuity, and a friendly working environment.
