Overview

Orthodontic Therapist position at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust. This is a Fixed Term appointment with 10 available PA, anticipated to be split between two post holders. The role is based in the Dental and Maxillofacial Department, Sight & Sound Division. The closing date is 13 October 2025.

Main duties of the job

Provision of a full range of orthodontic treatment within the orthodontic therapist's scope of practice for paediatric patients with complex or challenging conditions (e.g., cleft lip/palate, craniosynostosis, craniofacial microsomia, Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome). Responsibilities include:

  • Delivery of advanced orthodontic therapy with precision and care
  • Communicating with clarity and compassion to patients
  • Collection of relevant records for clinical audit and research
  • Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to shape patient outcomes
  • Contributing to clinical development and innovation
  • Facilitating and participating in department meetings, audits, and quality assurance programmes; promoting evidence-based practice

Person Specification
  • GDC registration in full
  • Diploma in Orthodontic Therapy
  • Dental Nursing Qualification (Diploma, NVQ or National Certificate)
  • Experience treating patients with learning difficulties
  • Certificate in Oral Health Education
  • Certificate in Dental Radiography (D)
Experience/Knowledge
  • Experience working with patients with complex clinical needs, learning difficulties, or challenging behaviour
  • Broad experience in General Dental Practice or Hospital Practice
  • Experience with clinical governance, audits, or quality improvement
  • Understanding of safeguarding
  • Experience in intra-oral scanning
  • Level 3 safeguarding training
Skills/Abilities
  • Computer literate; experience with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to plan and manage own workload; timely and efficient task completion
  • CPR trained
