Overview

Are you an experienced Ophthalmic Nurse looking to take the next step in your career? At Practice Plus Group Hospital, Shepton Mallet, we have an exciting opportunity for an Ophthalmic Nurse Specialist to join our dedicated team. This is a part-time role, working 18.5 hours a week over 2 days. The role offers autonomy within your clinical competencies and a key place in our multidisciplinary team, acting as a clinical expert and professional resource for colleagues, patients and carers.

Main duties of the job
  • Acting as a role model and clinical expert, providing specialist ophthalmic care and advice to patients and colleagues.
  • Delivering patient-focused care including assessments, treatment planning, and ophthalmic procedures.
  • Assisting with minor ophthalmic surgery and ensuring robust infection control and patient safety standards.
  • Supporting and supervising colleagues, sharing your specialist knowledge and mentoring new staff.
  • Leading and contributing to audits, clinical governance activities, and service improvement initiatives.
  • Educating patients and carers, ensuring they feel informed and supported at every step of their treatment.
  • Working with the wider multidisciplinary team to achieve the highest standards of ophthalmic care.
About us

As a Registered Nurse, you will also have:

  • An Ophthalmic Nursing qualification (or willingness to undertake further training such as OCCF Level 3)
  • Evidence of ophthalmic nursing experience, including the ability to carry out assessments and deliver specialist care.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to support patients and inspire colleagues.
  • Knowledge of clinical governance principles and commitment to evidence-based practice.
  • A flexible, enthusiastic and motivated approach, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • (Desirable) Skills such as slit lamp examination, OCT, pachymetry, biometry, and visual field testing.
