Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a healthcare or support worker role is essential.
  • Experience working with neurological conditions is desirable.
  • Experience of working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT).

At Blackheath Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre, you’ll join a friendly, experienced OT team supporting adults with complex cognitive and physical needs following acquired or traumatic brain injury. Our service includes a Level 1 Cognitive‑Behavioural ward (21 beds) and a Level 2 Neurorehabilitation ward (18 beds)—giving you exposure to a wide range of specialist interventions.

The Role:

This is a full‑time position working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. During this time, your key duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborate with the Occupational Therapy team to develop individualised rehabilitation plans based on patients’ goals and functional abilities
  • Plan and facilitate group therapy sessions, including upper‑limb rehabilitation, cooking groups, and community‑based activities.
  • Implement therapeutic activities to improve patients’ motor skills, co‑ordination, balance, strength and cognitive functioning.
  • Work with patients on a 1:1 basis, both within the hospital and in the community, to support the development of domestic, self‑care, social, or leisure skills under the guidance of a qualified Occupational Therapist, providing updates, queries, or concerns to the multidisciplinary team (MDT) as appropriate.
  • Monitoring patient progress and adjusting treatment plans as necessary to ensure optimal rehabilitation outcomes.
  • Provide emotional support and encouragement to patients during their rehabilitation journey.
  • Educating patients and their families about strategies for maximising independence and managing challenges related to their condition.
  • Responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and ensuring the proper use of occupational therapy equipment.
  • Participate in staff training and development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge.
What you'll bring:

  • Successful candidates will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS.
