Job description
Overview

We are recruiting for a Mechanical & Electrical Technician to join our Water Operations team at Orpington WTW.

You will work in a multi-disciplinary team and be responsible for scheduled, unscheduled and emergency maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment in compliance with company procedures to minimise plant downtime. This is an excellent opportunity to make a real difference to Thames Water by performing a range of front-line activities, including operation, testing, routine checks, maintenance, and problem-solving to ensure services are delivered to time, cost and quality standards. This will include planned and preventative maintenance of equipment to support the operation of the plant.

What you’ll be doing as the Mechanical & Electrical Technician
  • Investigate plant failures and carry out repairs quickly and efficiently to avoid interruptions to the process. This may involve diagnosing complex faults and carrying out repairs during incidents.
  • Provide technical advice, reference up-to-date technical knowledge, and offer training or support for technical trainees if required.
  • Work on equipment including motors, gearboxes, screw/chain conveyors & centrifuges, pumps, control gear, 3-phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems such as VSD, automatic valves, flow, level and pressure measurement, programmable logic controllers, variable speed drives and controls, chemical handling and dosing equipment.
  • Complete statutory checks as required.
  • Always work safely and comply with Health and Safety guidance and procedures.
  • Be prepared to be trained on the water treatment process.

Base Location: Orpington, Kent - BR6 0SQ.

Working Pattern: 38 hours Monday to Friday 7:30 AM – 3:36 PM. Plus standby rota payments and overtime opportunities can increase earning potential by up to a further £8,000–£10,000 per annum upon completion of essential company training.

All PPE, Tools, Fuel Card and Van are Provided.

What you should bring to the role

Essential criteria:

  • Time-served apprentice or significant experience in electrical systems in a true multi-skilled capacity. Previous experience in an electrical apprenticeship.
  • ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ or C&G Level 3 in mechanical engineering with an upskill qualification in mechanical NVQ2/3 and 18th Edition.
  • Ideally, you will have upskilled with a mechanical qualification to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair mechanical and electrical plant equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues are crucial.
  • Work may require entry to confined spaces with successful completion of the appropriate training.
  • A valid driving licence is essential.
