Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Bristol area

Are you a talented Mechanical Design Engineer looking to develop your career within the water and utilities sector? We are supporting a leading engineering contractor as they continue to strengthen their design and delivery capability across major regional infrastructure programmes.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on technically challenging and high–impact schemes, contributing to the development of essential water and wastewater assets across the South West.

Role Overview
  • Produce and develop mechanical designs from concept through to detailed design, ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
  • Prepare technical documents, calculations, schedules, and design reports.
  • Work closely with civil, electrical, and process engineering disciplines to deliver fully coordinated designs.
  • Support design reviews, HAZOPs, risk assessments, and value engineering activities.
  • Provide technical support during construction, commissioning, and handover stages.
  • Ensure all design work adheres to the highest health, safety, and environmental standards.
About You
  • Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Proven experience within the water, wastewater, or wider utilities sector.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including pumps, valves, pipework, rotating equipment, and associated infrastructure.
  • Proficient in relevant design software and tools (e.g., AutoCAD, 3D modelling, calculation software).
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and problem–solving skills.
  • A proactive approach with a strong focus on quality and efficient delivery.
  • CSCS / EUSR Water Hygiene desirable.
