We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Holme House, working as a Maths Teacher. This position is offered on a part-time basis (18.5 hours per week) and is for an initial fixed term duration of 9 months.

Site Information

HMP Holme House, located in Stockton-on-Tees, is a Category C men's prison. The team's aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe, and where causes of prison stress are minimised. The prison's mission is to provide a secure, safe, and rehabilitative environment that encourages positive change and prepares inmates for a successful reintegration into society.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need to:

  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Have the passion and ability to motivate and enthuse learners
  • Utilise organisational skills to prioritise workload and meet deadlines and targets
  • Be committed to positive team working
  • Have experience of creating stimulating, vibrant environments, which are conducive to learning and motivational for learners
  • Have a track record of achieving quality targets and producing accurate and timely reports
  • Hold a teaching qualification and, where applicable, a relevant subject specialist qualification - with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months
  • Hold a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)/ Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS), or commit to work towards within a specified timeframe (Applies to Teachers in YOI only)
