Job Description
We are looking for an experienced, entrepreneurial, Edinburgh-based Marketing & Communications Lead who is interested in the creative industries and community to join our Executive Team on a part-time basis. This role is key to delivering against the vision for Creative Edinburgh. You will be responsible for leading the strategic delivery of Creative Edinburgh’s Communications and Marketing Strategy to ensure the widest possible reach within the local, national and international audiences.
You will lead and deliver work across press, digital, social media, print and advertising to grow engagement and build our reputation and profile as one of the key sector support organisations in the country. Also, you will engage in a variety of marketing and communications activities, tailored to a wide range of audiences, from Creative Edinburgh members, the general public, local communities and residents, stakeholders, sponsors and policymakers. This also includes PR and Media engagement with local, national and international print, broadcast and digital media partners.
As a member of a small, dynamic team, you will play an important role in shaping the organisation over the coming years and supporting the growth of our creative community. You will find new and compelling ways to position, present and communicate the Creative Edinburgh’s offer, telling the story to a wider audience. You’ll also be a team player with a keen interest in creative content and ideas for innovative marketing.
Responsibilities
Marketing & Communications Strategy
- Lead on the implementation of the organisational Marketing & Communications Strategy that supports the Business Plan 2025-2028, membership development and revenue goals.
- Work closely with the Executive Director and the Executive Team to grow community engagement through increased and reach of all Creative Edinburgh’s activities, monitor progress and report on results using clear metrics and measurements.
- Overall management of marketing budget and spending, ensuring all activity is delivered within budget.
- Cultivate new relationships and nurture existing relationships with internal and external stakeholders for cross-marketing and partnership opportunities.
- Support the Community Manager by providing insight on membership and mentoring engagement, and the effectiveness of relevant marketing and communications activity.
- Maintain a strong brand presence for Creative Edinburgh in both online and offline activity, working with colleagues across the organisation to ensure consistency of brand identity.
Digital Marketing + Media Relations (Social Media, Newsletters, Website)
- Develop and deliver digital content, including video and visual content, for all relevant digital channels.
- Develop timely content and copy for use across all Creative Edinburgh channels to engage the membership, promote events and communicate news and updates.
- Manage relationships with communications teams from partner organisations to reflect Creative Edinburgh’s programme and event updates across third-party channels.
- Support Programme Manager in designing, publishing and managing events listing via our Eventbrite channel.
- Lead the contracting of photography and videography for selected events.
- Develop and manage media relations with city-wide publications and other media outlets.
- Provide proactive and reactive media relations support.>
Support of Creative Edinburgh’s Organisational Strategy and Operations
- Work as part of the Executive Team to implement Creative Edinburgh’s organisational strategy and operations, ensuring effective external and internal communications.
- Work across the organisation and partners to identify new revenue opportunities and maximise income generation via potential content models, marketing packages and pricing strategies.
- Support the Senior Management Team with the activation of sponsors and partners to maximise investment and brand alignments.
- Champion and implement best practice in line with Creative Edinburgh’s commitment to the Sustainability Action Plan & Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan.
- Contribute, as required, to evaluating and reporting on Creative Edinburgh’s impact on funders and stakeholders.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by the Executive Director.
Role Requirements
Essential skills, knowledge and experience
- Educated to degree level and/or with relevant experience and proven track record in the industry, plus a minimum of three years of marketing and audience development, preferably in an arts, creative or cultural context.
- Understanding of best contemporary practice in marketing and communications.
- Experience in developing, implementing and reporting on a digital strategy and managing social media activity effectively on behalf of an organisation.
- A commercial mindset – evidence of driving returns and decision making to create business sustainable outcomes.
- Strong project management and administration skills.
- Experience with budget management.
- Strong content creation skills.
- Excellent copywriting and proofreading skills, and experience in overseeing communications plans.
- Excellent knowledge of Canva, Mailchimp, Instagram and LinkedIn, video editing, Google Analytics, and other analytic tools.
- Experience in maintaining innovative websites and social media content.
- Ability to work well under pressure, multitask, prioritise a complex workload and manage multiple work streams and stakeholders.
Desirable knowledge and experience:
- A clear interest in the vision of Creative Edinburgh and a strong affinity with the creative sector.
- A strong network of Edinburgh-based press and media contacts.
- Excellent knowledge of Google Suite and other relevant software packages.
- Ability and flair to work at busy events and capture live content.
- Strong negotiation and advocacy skills.
