Job summary

A leading manufacturing company near Eastbourne is seeking a Shift Maintenance Engineer to join their Engineering Support team. The role involves reactive and preventive maintenance on automated machinery, with a focus on electrical fault finding. Candidates should possess a recognised Electrical qualification and experience in manufacturing. This position offers 40 hours per week with a focus on teamwork and communication skills. Training provided where required.

Qualifications

Job description
Shift Maintenance Engineer

We’re working with a large pan-European manufacturing business which operates 7 days a week that is actively seeking to add an experienced Multiskilled Maintenance Electrician to join one of its site Manufacturing Engineering Support teams.

Hours: 40 hours per week – Triple Shift or Permanent Nights (plus overtime)

Location: Near Eastbourne, Sussex

Salary: Dependent on experience

Responsibilities
  • Reactive Maintenance on automated production, printing, packaging or finishing machinery
  • Pre‑planned Maintenance (PPM) – Input to and carry out preventive maintenance routines
  • Mechanical fault finding
  • Electrical fault finding with and without diagrams (three‑phase and control systems)
  • Fault finding and repair on hydraulic or pneumatic systems
  • Small installation projects
  • Continuous Improvement to maintain optimal machine efficiency
  • Keep clean any areas in which you are working, including transit areas to and from the workshop, the workshop and stores
  • Support the Operations team in achieving targets
  • Comply with the company’s Health and Safety policies and procedures
  • Contribute to cost‑effective technical solutions
  • Deliver to the operational expectations
  • Be part of a weekend call‑out rota
Qualifications
  • A recognised industrial Electrical qualification 18th Edition and Level 3 Engineering qualification (City & Guilds, NVQ or equivalent)
  • Experience working as a Maintenance Engineer or as a dedicated Multiskilled or Electrical Engineer in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in the print, packaging or associated industries is a plus but not essential; experience in manufacturing or industrial automation is critical
  • Strong electrical fault‑finding skill in particular on PLCs, drives and inverters
  • Excellent fault finding and diagnostic skills
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering diagrams
  • Experience with maintenance PPM and RM programmes
  • Ideally experience working with highly skilled Operators or Technicians
  • Good communication, organisational and teamwork skills
  • Self‑motivation, initiative and determination

Specific training where required will be provided, OEM suppliers and via remote modem diagnostic support from the OEM.
