Manager, On Premises Platforms

Are you an on‑premise infrastructure expert ready to lead and innovate?

This is a hybrid working role with a requirement to work onsite 2‑3 days a week.

We are looking for an experienced On‑Premises Platform Manager to oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of on‑premises platform environments across NCA sites. This includes deploying servers, storage systems, databases, and middleware components while ensuring alignment with NHS standards and industry best practices.

As part of the group driving and supporting our on‑premise hosting strategy, you will manage on‑premise environments, bring expertise in server virtualization and storage technologies, and ensure seamless integration, cost efficiency, and automation. You will work closely with cross‑functional teams to align infrastructure with business objectives and support our digital transformation initiatives.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the design, implementation and ongoing maintenance of on‑premises platform environments.
  • Overseeing on‑premises architecture, implementing best practices for security and governance.
  • Optimising performance, ensuring high availability and robust disaster recovery.
  • Providing leadership, mentorship and professional development for a team of server and platform specialists.
  • Managing resources, budgets and performance metrics for efficient operation of server and platform services.
  • Driving strategic vision and technical expertise to support delivery of high‑quality healthcare services.

Qualifications
  • Relevant degree level (or equivalent) or demonstrable equivalent knowledge, skills and experience.
  • Relevant management qualification (e.g. ILM / Leadership Qualification) or equivalent.
  • Evidence of continued professional development.
  • ILM Qualification.
  • ITIL Qualification.
  • Relevant subject matter qualification (e.g. Microsoft / MCSE) or equivalent.
Knowledge
  • Ability to identify and resolve complex issues across a broad range of IT solutions to an advanced level.
  • Advanced knowledge of PC/Server operating systems, applications and hardware solutions.
  • Ability to evaluate and define the use of new IT solutions through research and development and build test configurations.
  • Significant relevant experience in a high‑pressure IT support environment.
  • Significant experience of delivering, supporting and troubleshooting complex multi‑vendor technical infrastructures.
  • In‑depth experience of major corporate solutions including Microsoft server product set, VMware and industry standard network technologies and architectures.
  • Some knowledge of common alternative subject matter systems such as Unix, Linux, OS X.
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver strategic plans.
