Location:

We have an opportunity for Maintenance Technician’s to join our Pumping department at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. Could this be you? The role will cover North Yorkshire region, so ideally looking for applicants living in the Harrogate, Colburn, Thirsk, Ripon and Northallerton area.

Work type:

The roles are permanent, and flexibility is crucial, you’ll be working 37 hours per week. Once fully trained and assessed for independent working, you will be expected to participate in an out of hours standby rota which will include evenings, weekends, and overnight callouts. This is done in a planned & scheduled way so you will have visibility of exactly when you will be on call (it currently sits at 1 week in every 8). In addition to standby, you will be expected to work some weekends, it currently sits at one weekend in every 8 weeks.

Where you fit in:

As our Maintenance Technician, you will

  • Safely carry out mechanical maintenance tasks to increase asset availability.
  • Respond to asset alarms within priority timescales – undertake fault finding/diagnostics and steps to resolve (in. basic mechanical tasks)
  • When faced with complex asset issues, raise work for mechanical fitters/electricians, detailing works carried out & assessment of the problem.
  • Proactively raise mitigation requests to avoid/manage pollution incidents.
  • Control of works – authorised person: ensure safe systems of work are in place for works being carried out by third parties (permit writing).
  • Ensure all tasks are carried out safely, meeting regulatory requirements.
  • Use asset data proactively carry out tasks and get-ahead of issues.
What skills & qualifications you will need:
  • A practical mindset and enjoy working outdoors in all weathers, comfortable taking a hands‑on‑approach to work is essential.
  • Safety related training & qualifications, including but not limited to; confined spaces, working at heights, lone worker, COSHH, manual handling, control of works.
  • Relevant task competence related training, including but not limited to; asset specific (pumping theory, Xylem, Hidrostal, Valves etc.,) DSEAR, hot works safe systems of work.
  • Willingness to work towards a Level 2/3 Certificate in Mechanical discipline/Engineering discipline.
  • You will need a full valid driving licence (No more than 6 points)
  • As part of this role, you will be required to work within confined spaces, any successful candidate must pass strict medical criteria including, BMI, vision, blood pressure, hearing, and Spirometry tests to ensure your full safety when working in hazardous environments.
  • You will have a flexible attitude to your work as you will be working to cover our 24/7 working window.
You will also benefit from having:
  • Use of IT Platforms including Microsoft Office
  • Deep operational/technical understanding of wastewater assets
  • Good understanding of individual assets at wastewater treatment works and how they link up to the efficient running of the site.
