A leading facilities management company in Portsmouth seeks a skilled Maintenance Technician (Mechanical) for essential healthcare services. Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 - 16:00
Salary: £31,000 - £33,000
Reports To: Assistant Technical Manager (Mechanical)
About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Maintenance Technician (Mechanical) to join our Facilities Management team at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth. This is a key role in ensuring the reliable operation and maintenance of critical mechanical systems across a busy hospital environment.
You will be responsible for carrying out planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance on a variety of mechanical systems, with a strong focus on safety, compliance, and high standards of service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Perform routine boiler tests and mechanical maintenance tasks (training provided)
Prepare plant and equipment for insurance inspections
Work safely on steam and hot water systems under a Permit to Work system
Diagnose faults and maintain complex systems in line with PSSR and other regulations
Support the Estates Management team in delivering a 24-hour maintenance service
Liaise with hospital departments to resolve maintenance issues professionally and efficiently
Carry a radio for immediate response and undertake training as required
Work in confined spaces and challenging environments when necessary
Essential Qualifications and Experience
Recognised engineering apprenticeship or approved equivalent (e.g. City & Guilds)
NVQ Level 2 (or higher) or equivalent relevant experience
Demonstrable experience in a relevant mechanical maintenance role
Desirable Skills and Knowledge
City & Guilds in steam maintenance or BOAS certification
Experience with calorifiers, PHEs, pipe fitting, industrial hot water systems
Knowledge of specialist pressure systems
Familiarity with other trades is advantageous
