Job description
Locum Consultant Radiology - Interventional

We require an enthusiastic Locum Consultant Radiologist to join our team our team of 23 Substantive Consultant Radiologists. The appointee will be primarily based at either Eastbourne DGH or Conquest Hospital Hastings although this may change dependent on service need.

Applicants should demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in General Radiology. Development of subspecialty areas of interest in addition to core skills is encouraged and the successful candidate is expected to participate in the development of Radiology services.

The Radiology Departments are actively involved in teaching with four radiology trainees on rotation from HEKSS deanery. Audit and other continuing professional developmental activities are positively encouraged.

This post will be offered on the Terms and Conditions in line with national pay scales. Applicants must have full GMC registration.

Main duties of the job

First line on call is provided by SpR or staff grade radiologists until 10pm weekdays and 5pm weekends with on call outsourced to a reporting company overnight. Our General Radiology consultant team is responsible for checking scans the following day to ensure quality assurance and education on a 1 in 8 rota. Daytime cover is also provided for a Malignant cord compression MRI at weekends on the same 1 in 8 rota.

Person Specification
Qualification & Registration
  • MB BS or equivalent
  • Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists
  • Full Registration with licence to practise with GMC
  • MD or equivalent
  • Other higher degree or diploma
Training and experience
  • Wide experience of all aspects of radiology including multislice CT and MRI
  • Fellowship in a specialist area of Radiology.
Administration & Management
  • Experience in day to day organisation of radiology services in a busy DGH radiology department.
  • Familiar with and committed to the principles of Clinical Governance, risk assessment, adverse incident recording and appraisal.
  • Understanding of recent initiatives and changes, including Clinical Governance and Appraisal
  • Management course and/or qualifications
  • Knowledge of the structure of Health Service
Audit, Research and Publications
  • Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit
  • Understanding of the role of research
  • Completion and/or Publication of audit projects
  • Experience of clinical research culminating in presentation and publication of original studies, review articles, etc, relevant to speciality
  • Ability to lead clinical research project
