Overview
The successful candidate will work as part of a multi-disciplinary Clinical Team to promote the safety and well-being of patients, under the supervision of the Consultant. This is a 12 month fixed term post, full-time (40 hours per week) with no on-call commitment. The service works with partner organisations (statutory and voluntary) and maintains links with local General Practitioners.
Responsibilities
- Provide clinical support to Foundation Programme Doctors.
- Participate fully in Postgraduate Department activities and undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and audit.
- Teach Medical Students.
- Provide a clinical service in conjunction with colleagues under the direction of a Consultant, including responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness.
- Work with the multi-professional team to maintain the well-being of all patients under care.
- Provide prospective ward cover Monday to Friday in Medical / Elderly Care / Stroke Rehabilitation / Ortho-geriatrics and gain experience in inpatient care across Geriatric Medicine, Stroke Rehabilitation and Ortho-geriatrics.
- Cover designated patients on Medical / Elderly Care / Stroke Rehabilitation / Ortho-geriatrics as required.
Qualifications and Experience
- Essential
- Registered with GMC
- Hold MBBS or equivalent qualification
- Licensed to practice
- Be eligible for full registration with, and hold a current licence to practice from, the GMC at the intended start date
- Current employment in a UKFPO-affiliated foundation programme or 12 months' experience after full GMC registration or equivalent, and evidence of achievement of foundation competences in the three years preceding the intended start date from a UKFPO-affiliated foundation programme or equivalent, in line with GMC standards / Good Medical Practice
- Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent by intended start date

- Evidence of ability to develop effective working relationships with all levels of staff (multidisciplinary teamwork)
- Experience within the NHS and ability to apply clinical knowledge and judgement, prioritize clinical need, maximise safety and minimise risk
- Effective leadership and teamwork skills; ability to listen, communicate and adapt to change
- Understanding of Prudent Healthcare principles
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly with patients, colleagues and relatives; flexible and adaptable under pressure; commitment to continuous improvement and service development
- Empathy and sensitivity in involving people as individuals
- Ability to undertake on-call
