Job Overview

We are seeking a proactive and detail‑focused Information Governance Officer to join our Information Governance (IG) team at Moorfields. This is an exciting opportunity to support the delivery of the Trust’s Information Governance strategy, ensuring we meet our data protection, security, and compliance obligations across the organisation.

You will play a key role in responding to IG enquiries, supporting Freedom of Information (FOI) processes, maintaining IG records and systems, and assisting with Data Security & Protection Toolkit requirements. This role is ideal for someone with excellent organisational skills, strong communication abilities, and an interest in developing their career within information governance and data protection.

Responsibilities
  • Manage day-to-day operational enquiries within the organisation against compliance with Information Governance/Data Protection.
  • Monitor, co-ordinate and process all requests under the Freedom of Information Act and Environmental Information Regulations and the Trust’s procedure for dealing with information requests.
  • Deliver Data Security Awareness training sessions to the organisation where required.
  • Support the IG team with production and collection of evidence for the annual Data Security & Protection Toolkit.
  • Undertake audit activity in relation to information governance.
  • Deputise for the Information Governance Compliance Officer as required.
  • Support the IG team with identifying data flows, information assets and associated risks.
  • Provide IG secretarial support including arranging meetings, minuting and note taking.
  • Provide administrative support as required by the IG team.
  • Plan, organise and coordinate information asset management including Data Protection Impact Assessments for new and existing systems/processes involving personal data; organise meetings as appropriate.
  • Coordinate information asset management and data flow mapping; support maintenance of data flow mapping and Information Asset Management.
  • Monitor and update IG intranet pages and assist with incident investigations as required.
  • Arrange logistical support for events, briefings, meetings and workshops to assist the IG team in delivering their work.
  • Provide support to maintain policies, procedures and learning materials; assist the Trust’s Information Asset Owner and Administrators with access to training and systems.
  • Attend meetings on behalf of the IG team as required and report to line management; work autonomously with initiative and effective workload prioritisation.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
  • Act as the first point of contact for information governance enquiries.
  • Assist with the production and collation of evidence to support compliance with the Data Security & Protection Toolkit.
  • Monitor and coordinate FOI requests; create performance reports and escalate issues in line with the FOI process.
  • Plan and deliver staff training to raise awareness of information governance, including induction and mandatory training (face-to-face and e-learning).
  • Create FOI performance reports against key performance indicators for governance committees.
  • Assist with updating policies, procedures and learning materials.
  • Support Information Asset Owners and Administrators with access to training and systems; assist with data flow mapping and information asset management.
  • Order and receive IG stock; manage information asset management platforms and keep entries updated.
  • Maintain information governance enquiries and knowledge management databases; support incident investigations as required.
  • Monitor IG intranet pages and coordinate events, briefings, meetings and workshops.
  • Coordinate information asset management for Data Protection Impact Assessments; organise Information Committee governance meetings and take minutes.
  • Provide administrative support to the Head of Information Governance and attend meetings as required.
  • Work autonomously, be proactive, and manage conflicting deadlines.
  • Ability to travel to Moorfields satellite sites as needed.
Person Specification

Experience

Essential criteria

  • First degree or equivalent experience in an Information Governance role

Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of key legislation, especially the Data Protection Act 2018
  • Knowledge of the Data Security & Protection Toolkit
  • Experience of working in information governance or a similar governance/compliance area
  • Experience of undertaking audits
