HOUSEKEEPER (FULL-TIME) – LARGE PRIVATE HOME IN WARSASH, HAMPSHIRE
We are seeking an experienced full-time Housekeeper to join a modern family household in Warsash, near Southampton. This is a dynamic role in a busy household with teenage children, pets (cats) and livestock (alpacas), and a small domestic team. The ideal candidate will have prior housekeeping experience in a similar UK household and a proactive attitude. You will work closely with the homeowners to ensure the residence is maintained to a high standard and daily operations run smoothly. Typical duties include cleaning, laundry, shopping, and care for pets; responsibilities are varied in this home.
Key Responsibilities
- Cleaning & Organization: Maintain cleanliness and order throughout the home, keep rooms and common areas tidy and presentable, and proactively identify what needs attention.
- Laundry & Linen Care: Manage all laundry duties, wardrobe management, and changing bed linens regularly; ensure clothing and linens are well cared for and properly stored.
- Household Management: Monitor household supplies and inventory, restock cleaning products, groceries, and other essentials; handle deliveries and coordinate minor repairs or maintenance visits by tradespeople.
- Cooking & Meal Assistance: Assist with food preparation for daily meals and events; capable of preparing simple snacks and keeping the kitchen clean and orderly. A full-time chef is not required.
- Pet & Livestock Care: Provide care for alpacas and other livestock; daily feeding, fresh water, and maintaining clean living areas. Training provided for specific tasks; ability to learn and be comfortable around animals is essential.
- Childcare Support: Offer occasional support with the family’s teenage children (not a nanny position), such as driving to school or activities when needed.
- Errands & Shopping: Run errands including grocery shopping, prescriptions, dry cleaning, post office, and other tasks. May include occasional duties related to caring for a nearby yacht and stocking linen or cleaning the yacht interior; training provided as needed.
- House Sitting & Security: Act as a responsible caretaker when the family is away, maintain a presence in the home, care for pets and plants, and ensure security and upkeep.
Experience & Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 2–3 years as a housekeeper in a large private home or estate.
- Driving Licence: Full UK driving licence is essential; a work vehicle can be provided when at the property.
- Background & References: Legal right to work in the UK and excellent checkable references from previous employers; Enhanced DBS check required. Certifications (e.g., first aid, food hygiene, animal care) are advantageous.
- Personal Qualities: Reliable, trustworthy, discreet, proactive, self-motivated, able to work independently, and adaptable. Willing to wear a housekeeper uniform.
- Team Player: Ability to work independently and as part of a small team; good communication and courteous interaction with other staff and family members.
Schedule, Flexibility & Working Environment
Core schedule is around 40 hours per week, typically Monday to Saturday with one weekday off and Sundays off. Occasional weekend work or adjusted hours for events or travel may be required, with changes arranged in advance. Overtime or additional days, if needed, will be compensated or given as time off in lieu according to prior agreement. The estate is a large Hampshire property with modern facilities; the role can be physically active with some outdoor work. Safety equipment and training are provided.
Compensation, Benefits & How to Apply
Salary: Competitive, approximately £30–£40K per year (gross), depending on experience.
- Benefits: Statutory holiday entitlement and workplace pension; equipment provided; use of a work vehicle for driving duties; potential for live-in accommodation in the future by mutual agreement.
- Schedule: Generally Monday to Friday with occasional Saturday work or weekend hours for events; typical day length around 8 hours with breaks. Notice will be given for changes to the schedule.
