Location: Lynton House, Ilford

This is an exciting time for the London Borough of Redbridge; we are at the heart of regeneration and change in East London, with unprecedented investment in the area expected in the next few years and Cross Rail will open up new opportunities for new homes and jobs. We benefit from excellent transport links across London and Essex and our offices, based in Ilford, are only 9 minutes from Stratford and 18 minutes from Liverpool Street, in the heart of the city.

We are looking for a hard-working enthusiastic person with experience of premises management within hostel/residential settings, for the post of Hostels Manager. With excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate, negotiate and liaise effectively with both private and public-sector organisations. Ability to interpret financial information and assist in the management and monitoring of budgets.

The Role
  • To represent the Council in upholding the licence agreement between the Council and the hostel residents.
  • Manage staff resources to deliver hostel and other short-term accommodation when needed.
  • Participate in the provision of 24/7 cover at the hostels and manage the emergency out of hours provision.

Duties include:

  • Managing and motivating a team, carrying out supervision and appraisals, and ensuring targets are met. Ability to deal with a wide range of personnel issues including recruitment, training and disciplinary procedures.
  • Developing, improving and managing staff rotas to ensure the needs of the service are met efficiently and effectively.
  • Providing a sensitive, customer focused service that incorporates awareness of diversity and equality issues in service delivery to vulnerable clients.
  • Premises Management, Health and Safety: report any complaints or concerns and take appropriate action.
  • Managing occupancy/voids in the hostels, maintaining accurate occupancy records.
  • Working with homeless/vulnerable client group or individuals, ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.
Knowledge
  • Housing and Homelessness issues.
  • Safeguarding vulnerable adults and children.
  • Health and Safety in residential settings.
