Job description
Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Registered Nurse to join our supportive and forward-thinking Gastroenterology Department as a Hepatology Support Nurse. This role offers the chance to develop specialist skills alongside a highly skilled Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) team, delivering safe, effective, and compassionate care within our Tertiary Hepatobiliary Service.

Ideal for a nurse seeking to broaden their experience in a specialist field, you will work within a multidisciplinary team supporting patients with complex and often life-long liver conditions. The role includes involvement in nurse-led services such as paracentesis, haemochromatosis management, FibroScan, and long-term condition monitoring.

You will be responsible for coordinating and supporting patients on elective hepatobiliary and planned care pathways. Working collaboratively with the hepatology team, you will undertake delegated clinical and administrative duties and act as a key point of contact for patients and families, offering support and guidance throughout their care journey.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, compassionate, and well-organised nurse with a genuine interest in hepatology and a desire to develop in a specialist setting. In return, you will be supported by an experienced team and have access to structured training, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.

Responsibilities
  • Support the CNS teams in delivering safe, effective, and compassionate care to hepatology patients within the Tertiary Hepatobiliary Service.
  • Assist in the coordination and management of the elective paracentesis service.
  • Support the care and monitoring of patients with haemochromatosis.
  • Contribute to the delivery of the FibroScan service.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating patient databases.
  • Act as a point of contact for liver patients, offering advice and support, and contributing to the running of the liver nurse advice line.

This is an excellent development opportunity for a motivated nurse with a keen interest in hepatology and a passion for improving patient outcomes in specialist care. You will be supported by an experienced and friendly team in a highly regarded tertiary service.
