About us

We are a small independent school based in Wigan, part of Expanse Group Ltd. Expanse is a thriving organisation, committed to supporting staff professional development and wellbeing. Expanse has grown rapidly since opening in 2014, now comprising of one school, two colleges and a forest school. Expanse School works with students 11-16 years with additional needs such as Autism and ADHD. Recent developments include an on-site vocational centre, therapy suite and the opportunity for students to visit our forest school site as part of their usual timetable.

We are seeking to appoint a Headteacher to lead ELWS. The successful candidate will be passionate about reducing inequalities in education, special educational needs and secondary education. They will be an outstanding, inspirational senior leader, they will motivate, challenge and empower our school team, they will be an outstanding classroom practitioner, they will display the highest levels of integrity and uphold the highest level of commitment to quality, policy, procedure and safeguarding. Main Responsibilities

The Headteacher is accountable to the Board of Governors and the Governing Advisory Body for ensuring the educational success of the school within the framework of Expanse Learnings strategic plans, values, operating principles, policies and procedures. The Headteacher will provide professional leadership and management to the school and must maintain a culture that promotes excellence, equality and high expectations for all students.
