Overview

At BIMM University, we’re looking for a Head of School - Music to provide academic leadership and drive excellence in teaching, learning, and assessment. This role supports the Dean of Music, oversees curriculum delivery, tutor recruitment, and student success, and works with colleagues across the University to support the School’s commercial success and target student numbers. Location: Brighton, Sussex, United Kingdom. Salary: £125,000 - £150,000 per year. Posting date: 02 Feb 2026. Closes: 02 Mar 2026 23:59. Reference: 3066085836.

Responsibilities
  • As Head of School - Music, provide academic leadership and drive excellence in teaching, learning, and assessment.
  • Oversee curriculum delivery, tutor recruitment, and student success to ensure an outstanding learning experience.
  • Collaborate with the Dean of Music to implement local initiatives that broaden access and participation, enrich induction, and elevate the international student experience.
  • Lead curriculum quality assurance and champion teaching and assessment excellence for continuous enhancement and relevance.
  • Advocate for the subject area across the campus, elevating its profile through innovative curriculum enhancement and engagement.
  • Recruit and develop lecturers to deliver outstanding educational experiences and promote teaching excellence.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration by sharing best practices and addressing teaching or curriculum delivery challenges.
  • Manage performance and disciplinary processes with discretion to maintain a positive working environment.
  • Represent the subject area in governance forums and university committees to influence decision-making and policy development.
  • Champion student well-being and provide a supportive academic environment that supports student success.
  • Contribute to university processes to enhance the academic character of the institution and demonstrate leadership in academic excellence.
  • Support marketing and recruitment strategies by participating in open days and other events to showcase strengths of the subject area.
Qualifications & Experience
  • A Postgraduate Degree or equivalent qualifications/industry experience in the subject area.
  • A teaching qualification relevant to higher education or Fellowship of Advance HE.
  • Evidence of subject expertise and industry engagement.
  • Experience in leadership and management within higher education.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in curriculum development and teaching quality improvement.
  • Experience teaching in a higher education context.
  • Understanding of relevant compliance and regulatory issues in higher education.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
