Qualifications

Job Summary

Hope House Children’s Hospices have an opportunity for a Head of Finance to join our team based in Oswestry. Join us by playing a vital role in achieving ‘Our Mission’: Helping every child with a life‑threatening condition live their best life.

This full‑time permanent role offers hybrid working and a real work‑life balance and is compensated with a competitive salary of £60,772–£67,081 per annum plus car allowance and benefits.

Main Duties

The Head of Finance will be operationally responsible for the financial processes and governance of the charity and provide timely and relevant insight and analysis to influence decision making and performance.

Managing the Finance team, you will lead on all accounting activities in accordance with the Charity Commission’s Standards of Recommended Practice (SORP) and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements including HMRC, the Charity Commission and the Gambling Commission. You will work closely with the Chief Executive and Director of Finance & Transformation to propose the financial strategy and budgets for the organisation to the Board of Trustees and act as the principal liaison with the appointed auditors.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Fully qualified accountant (CIMA/ACCA/ACA)
  • Full membership of a UK recognised professional accountancy body
  • Educated to degree level in a relevant field
  • Strong leadership skills and willingness to work as part of a team to deliver the charity’s vision
  • Strategic thinker able to clearly interpret and present complex information to different audiences
  • Expertise in financial systems and Microsoft Excel
  • Experience in preparing income, expenditure and capital budgets; monitoring and reporting budget and financial performance
  • Strong leadership qualities and ability to influence at a senior level, providing assurance, evidence and expertise
  • Ability to manage a complex workload, meet strict deadlines and work under pressure
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practice, budget setting, forecasting, cash flow management, banking products and payment processing solutions, payroll and VAT, and charity regulations (SORP, Gift Aid, Gambling Commission)
